After Vogue rather predictably put Kate Moss on their September cover, they have taken a bigger risk for their October cover, which I think has paid off beautifully. Here we see the gorgeous Ms Cheryl Cole grace her second cover of the UK edition of one of the world’s most highly regarded fashion publications.
I love the cover, the colours are gorgeous, very spring/summer for an October issue. The pink background made me smile. But is it just me or is their something ‘off’ about Cheryl’s face? I’m putting it down to the fact that it was shot a day before she was diagnosed with malaria, as explained by Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief, Alexandra Schulman:
"It's been 18 months since we published our original story about Cheryl Cole and despite mutterings that she was a flash-in-the-pan phenomenon, her popularity has stuck, her story continuing to intrigue. She is particularly popular with the Vogue team, since our cover shoot took place only 24 hours before she was diagnosed with malaria. Although she felt really unwell on the shoot, she was a real trouper, sticking with us and working though the day. Of course, at that stage nobody knew what the problem was. We are all very grateful to her for her stoicism."
I can’t wait to get my hands on this issue, especially to read the article advertised on the cover titled ‘The Return of 60s Glamour’. I’m sure the accompanying photo’s TO Cheryl’s article will be stunning too, shot by frequent Vogue collaborator Patrick Demarchelier. Even hours before diagnosis of a potentially fatal illness the girl still creates an amazing picture. I’ve included some of my favourite 2010 Patrick Demarchelier pictures below:
